Yes, yes,yes you all probably hear about it ACTA, SOPA, FIFA…sorry I mean PIPA and EAR…really ear? lol
Everyone is talking about them so I figure I would too. I don’t mind some restrictions on my net…seriously after seeing all the horrible things I’ve seen in my ol’ days I’m still surprised that I am sane…I am sane and blogging right now, right?
Still I got no wish to go in for what those people are talking about…heck they don’t even know themselves what they are talking about. “We need a nerd in here to tell us what this is about!” said by some nice politicians who made the law…really people nerds aka geeks aka people who specialize in something aka experts. Aye long trip but the same meaning. Yes you need to learn how to look up in a dictionary and use the correct synonyms so you don’t embarrass your country when some comedian shows how you are in a TV far away from your country…like in EU.
Anyway I said I like restrictions…so what kind of restrictions am I talking about? Oh it’s easy. Restrictions where people are earning money on the stuff you made, whether you be rich or poor, if people are making money on your stuff on the net without your consent to it I think they should be restricted to….jail.
As I’ve probably said a many times, I am was a scanlator.
The reason I did it was to let other people enjoy the author’s works so they would help support the author and buy the book for themselves for the bookshelves. I’ve bought many titles and still do. Doing stuff like that shouldn’t be restricted. This kind of sharing is helping those people getting money since it’s free commercial…and some may even buy their books, in contrast to unknown authors’ work who will never get known if something big doesn’t happen.
Now the reason for me stopping was that there are sites that earn money on the authors’ works. They don’t do it directly. No they act like it’s free. They take what we scanlator did for fun and love, and they put it up on their site without asking the authors or the scanlators. Of course the readers who visit the site isn’t paying anything at all. They are just reading their title. Cool, commercial and someone may buy the book, right? NOT! Those sites are so nice that they put the chapters up so you have to click on the pages to get to the next page…and then they earn money on yours clicks through pageview. Nice right? NOT! The authors get nothing and those people get lots of money instead on authors’ and scanlators’ works. I didn’t like it so I quit. I don’t like people earning money on the authors’ work without the authors getting anything. Now that kind of restriction wouldn’t be bad.
I guess I can tell a little bit about it like websites called mangafox, mangahere, animehere, otakushop (this one is a counterfeit shop) which are all owns by a guy called NOEZ which is actually a company in reality placed in China. Yes, there we go! China! Let’s restrict China…ooooor let’s try to get them to restrict their citizens at the right places instead of on weird things like facebook and google stuff.
So we got people who downloads stuff for free cuz they are poor, greedy, lazy to buy the stuff, and we got people (heck even firms) earning from other stuff made by other people.
Sad part is that the people who makes those SOPA, ACTA, PIPA and EAR don’t take that into account. If they could change it a bit to ala “If you are earning any kind of income from other’s work on the net, then you go to jail” then I think many people who are against it wouldn’t be that much against it. I surely wouldn’t. This may also be why China and India are totally against this idea. They got lots of poor people who can’t afford anything in their country so they would love it if the poor man could still get the stuff without being sued so the progress of their country got stopped. Still, I’m sure they would be able to see the idea if you told them that you wanted to stop the ones who were owning money on your stuff.
I liked it when megaupload’s owner and some close workers got taken by the feds. Yes, it was very sad that they had to close megapload since it was really a fast hosting site but they were earning lots of millions of stuff that weren’t theirs. Jail, I say! Now if they hadn’t been earning anything then I would have been sad for them.
See the line there…money is what makes the world go round but let’s not try to make it to a huge extreme case since it will only have a backlash on the ones who make the law. Remember the ban on alcohol in USA that took place from 1920 to 1933, it was sooooo misplaced and it didn’t do anything since people still did what they normally did. No effect at all, just waste of money and time.
So please use your heads and try to make something serious and logical instead of something totally annoying and restricting. After all we don’t want most of the internet to end like this, do we?
